Think you missed that sweet spot for newborn photos? Think again! Ashley knew she wanted me to be the one to take baby Ryan’s first photos, but she lived out of state! She didn’t make her first trip to Orlando until Ryan was around 3 months old. When she asked me if was possible to do Ryan’s “newborn” photoshoot at her mom’s house when she was visiting I didn’t even hesitate.
Candid, lifestyle photography is all about capturing the natural beauty in everyday, so that’s exactly what I did. And I just LOVE how they turned out. We even got a few shots of Ashley’s oldest child — her fur baby!
This little one just celebrated his first birthday, and I can’t wait for him to come back to Orlando to visit so I can get some updated shots of him!
So, if you think you’ve missed that golden opportunity to have professional photographs of your new baby, consider an unposed photoshoot of your new little one in your own home. Contact me to learn more about my newborn collection.
I’ve known this little baby’s mother since high school, and it always brings a smile to my face when she picks me to be her family photographer.
Over the years, I’ve photographed her family many times, so I wasn’t surprised when she asked me to capture the story of baby Jack in their home in Clermont, Florida back in February of 2018 (see previous post — I am a bit behind on blogging haha).
I loved all of the images from this candid, in-home newborn photography session. Here are a few of my favorites.

Today, baby Jack is on the blog. You may recognize this little guy from previous shares on my social media channels from almost one year ago. Yep, you read that right. Let’s just say 2018 was not the year of blogging. But, I’m determined to catch up on sharing all of the goodness from my 2018 newborns and families, and to be better about timely blogging in 2019. So, let’s do a little throwback Thursday and reminisce about this cutie pie’s in-home lifestyle newborn session.
Often times, I get asked “how old is too old for newborn photos?”. While posed photos of newborns usually must be taken within the baby’s first 14 days of life, my in-home lifestyle approach to photography allows me to capture your new baby’s story well beyond this typical two-week window.
I love to incorporate all of the details of the baby’s sweet nursery mama has spent so much time on, and of course include big brother or big sister and fur babies too!
Jack’s mama, who is also a professional photographer, knew that with my style of photography it was no problem that she waited until Jack was around 3 months old for his photoshoot. The extra time allowed her to look feel more like herself after birthing a new child, and allowed big sister to adjust to her new special role.
It was such a fun-filled family session with lots of giggles and love.

This beautiful expecting mama contacted me soon after I moved back to Central Florida. She was pregnant with her second baby (a boy this time!) and was on the hunt for a photographer to tell the story of welcoming a new baby into her family. She wasn’t looking for traditional, posed “maternity” portraits – her vision was to capture some real moments with her daughter before little brother’s arrival. And, once the baby made his arrival, she wanted a more candid approach to newborn images.
When I heard that, I immediately knew we would be a good fit for each other – and that my Belly and Baby package was the perfect collection for her since it includes a family session with a focus on the bump and in-home newborn session!
A few weeks later, I got the call that baby boy had arrived. Once they were home and settled in, I came back for the This sweet little guy was a dream to photograph. Here are just a few of my favorites from his gallery.
If you’re expecting, I’d love to hear from you! I offer family (in-home and outdoors), maternity, fresh 48 and in-home newborn sessions. CONTACT ME to learn about my availability.
Traveling back and forth from Costa Rica to Orlando so frequently has given me the opportunity to continue to photograph many of my former clients from Central Florida. When I found out Monique and Stewart were expecting their second child, I immediately tried to figure out how I could coordinate schedules so that I would be around to capture not only her growing belly (check out her Maternity session here!) but also her sweet baby girl once she arrived.
The original plan was for Sadie to arrive in early April, so imagine my excitement when I found out I had to plan a trip home right around her due date! Even though she showed up a few days earlier than I did, I had plenty of time to visit their house one morning for an in-home lifestyle newborn session.
One of my favorite things about these non-posed newborn sessions is how laid back they are! No one is stressed out about whether or not the baby will sleep the entire time or how often he/she will need breaks for feedings and/or diaper changes. There is minimal prep involved for the new parents which, obviously, is a huge benefit. It’s one less thing to worry about when they’re already in such a chaotic phase in their lives. When I showed up, Sadie was eating and (with mom’s permission of course) I just started snapping. Sadie made the rules – I just went along with whatever she had planned.
Once she was ready to take a break from one of her many meals she had this morning, I walked into baby’s stunning nursery and found some adorable patterned blankets and knew I had to incorporate them! I loved the soft neutral tones with slight pops of color. Three simple swaddles allowed me to get some sweet shots of baby alone, each with a beautiful background that matches her nursery perfectly.
I used several rooms in their home to tell the story of Sadie’s arrival into her new family. Big brother Brantley was so sweet and interested in his baby sister – I just love the way I was able to capture him sweetly kissing her on his bed. We also spent a lot of time in Mom and Dad’s room. As you can tell, things even got a little wild!
Despite the fact that Sadie spent at least 85 percent of the session eating (haha), I was able to deliver a diverse gallery filled with moments that this family will cherish forever. Mom plans to make an album will all of the images, so when Sadie is older she can look back on her first few days at home.
Sadie’s big brother Brantley was one of the first newborns I photographed several years ago, and this sweet family has continued to trust me to capture all of their family’s milestones over the years. I’m so thankful to have them as repeat clients, and more importantly wonderful friends.

I had a lovely two-week vacation visiting my home town of Orlando. I took a short break from blogging so I could spend time with family, but I’ve been eager to share one of my latest in-home newborn photography sessions.
After I took this family’s maternity photos (if you missed them, check them out here!), we were all patiently awaiting baby boy’s arrival. I was so happy to learn that he came in time for me to take some natural newborn photos before I left for my trip. So, the day before my flight, I visited this family’s home and had such a wonderful time hanging out with them and documenting their joy with their new baby boy.
Mom’s family flew in from all over the world to meet their grandson, and nephew. It was obvious how much in love everyone is with the newest addition to their family. And, proud big brother was all smiles too. I loved being there to capture the moment when his dad was teaching him how to hold his baby brother. Swooon!
This session really re-sparked my love for this non-posed, lifestyle approach with newborn photography. There is something about a new baby in their natural atmosphere that I can't get enough of. I can't wait to start taking clients in Orlando this summer once I move back to Central Florida for good!
If you're expecting, I'd love to talk to you about how I can capture your belly, your baby's first moments in the hospital and his or her first few days in your home. CONTACT ME to learn more.
On December 28, my 366 project ended. While it was a huge undertaking, I am so glad I stuck with it. I was able to capture a tremendous amount of documentary and lifestyle images of my children, and even a few portraits too! I took a week or so off from my daily shooting, but January 1 quickly rolled around and I felt like I HAD to start another photography project – or at least have something to focus on in 2017 – but I just didn’t know what to do. And then, after much thought, it finally came to me. I am going to make my own rules this year.
I’ve thought long and hard about my photography goals for 2017, and I want to share five of them today, so you get a better idea of what to expect from Ashley Rogers Photography.
1) Shoot When I Want. I am NOT going to do another personal daily shooting project this year. I am going to shoot for me when I want to shoot, not because I have to shoot. Chances are, I will be shooting my little girls daily, but I am not going to force myself on the days I want a break. We all need breaks, and I really don’t want to get burned out because I’m turning the focus to my clients for 2017.
2) Shoot What I Want. Two thousand and sixteen was the year of personal and artistic growth for me. I still sometimes stop and pinch myself when I realize all that I accomplished in just 366 days. Not only did photography skills greatly improve, I was accepted into a network of some of the most talented photographers in the business, I documented the heck out of our amazing first year in Costa Rica, but, most importantly, I learned what I want to focus on when I start taking on more clients in the coming year!
Nothing makes me happier than capturing real connections between family members, that’s why I am going to focus on offering unforgettable, quality fresh 48, lifestyle newborn, and lifestyle/documentary family photography -- either in your home or outdoor family play.
3) Make It Easy. My clients mean the world to me, so I’ll be working on putting together everything my clients need to make sessions easy and stress-free. This includes welcome guides that outline what to expect before, during and after a session (including a what to wear guide!) new package offerings to meet my clients’ needs and client referral programs!
4) Out With The Old, In With The New. Change can be scary, but it can also be really, really good. I’m going to change up many things this year, with the end goal to have a more cohesive brand. To start, a new logo is in the works and I’m also working on updating my website. I can’t wait to share it with you all when it’s done! I’m also going to be blogging a lot more than I did last year, but the content will be different than what you are used to seeing. I’ll still post photos of the kids and share some of our exciting adventures in Costa Rica, but I’ll also be blogging client sessions, sharing photography tips and tricks, and writing short and easy-to-read posts that will benefit my future clients. I can’t wait to get started!
5) Share the Knowledge. Last year, I stepped out of my comfort zone a little and offered a trial run of an entry-level course on photography. This four-week course covers all the basics, from how to shoot in manual mode, tips to nail focus, guidance on light and key rules for composition. The trial run was such a hit, and I plan to offer a second run in February. The course is available in-person in Santa Ana, Costa Rica (will be capped at 8 participants) or can be taken online for any of my followers in Orlando, Florida, or any other location. Go ahead and fill out this form if you would like more information about this opportunity.
As of now, the plan is for us to move back to Orlando in August. I’ll be sad to leave Costa Rica, but am also anxious to move back “home” and hit the ground running with my business. I’ll be booking clients in the Santa Ana, Costa Rica area through summer 2017 and then I’ll be offering sessions in the Orlando, Florida, area beginning in the fall. If you’re interested in one of these sessions, I’d love for you to contact me to learn more about how I can capture memories for your family!
